Joy Martin I don't think I've ever felt 'inspired' but I do check the ideas which I've stored in my head before starting to write a novel, choose the one which most appeals and the story begins to write itself.

And do keep the following comment from a frustrated editor at the back of your mind: 'why can't authors simply tell a story from beginning to end without trying to be too clever!'
