Take as many writing classes as you can. Join a writer's group. Write everyday, even if it's just a page. Study what is being published. Write from your heart. Write your passion. Don't get discouraged by rejection letters. Keep writing until you achieve your dream!

Watching the story unfold before me. It's actually a rather magical process. Sometimes I go back for a re-write and am amazed. Did I write that? The blank page or screen can be daunting and I feel a tremendous sense of satisfaction when the story flows the way I envision it. But, there are always surprises where the characters take off on their own and all I can do is follow along. The characters, I've discovered after so many years of writing, are always right. I never doubt them.

Writer's block is always a challenge to get past. I usually go do something else, something mundane like vacuum and try to clear my mind and keep asking myself the question, "What if?" Or, I go back and re-read earlier chapters until inspiration returns. A third option is to go back and study the research collected and hope that it inspires new avenues to approach.
