Alison Zak I got the idea for 'Wild Asana' when I realized that yoga teachers and students practice poses named after animals hundreds of times without ever thinking of the actual animal after which the poses are named! It's such a simple yet profound idea: To think about a cobra while practicing cobra pose (bhujangasana).
Alison Zak I have 2 answers to this one:

1) Researching to write nonfiction about nature and animals is so much fun! I get to constantly learn new things about all my favorite critters.

2) Writing is thinking. The process of putting my words on the page helps me to process life and what it's all about in a way that no other activity can. Even if you never plan to show your work to anyone, I still encourage you to write because it will encourage you to see the world in different ways.
Alison Zak Take yourself seriously even if it feels like it's too early to do so. It's not. Carve out writing time in your schedule. Call yourself a writer. Find a writing group along with the courage to share your work. Become a 'good literary citizen' by supporting the work of authors you love. It will all pay off in the end, and it's never too early to start. You can do this!
Alison Zak I am working on my second book! I won't say much about it yet, but it is nonfiction and also about animals.
Alison Zak Getting inspired to write while working on Wild Asana was easy. I just practiced the yoga pose that I was writing about! As long as I put myself in the shape of an animal and allowed my body to move and play, there was always something new to explore in my writing.
