It's really that simple. Write, and then do it again the next day, and the next. Write when you'd rather be doing something else, or it would be easier not to. Write when your friends are going to the movies, or you could be watching soccer practice. Write during your lunch break, or on your day off, or both.
Writing, especially writing novels--meaning more than one, takes incredible discipline. The concept is simple, but actually doing it is hard. If you are serious about it, though, you'll keep coming back. Keep trying, and keep writing. Conferences and writers' groups are fun and may help you learn things about your craft, but they can't write the book for you. Only you can do that.
