Brian Barr Currently, I'm reading Michael R. Fletcher's sequel to Beyond Redemption, The Mirror's Truth. I want to read some other fantasy books, since I downloaded a number of giveaway books on Kindle, but that's my main focus right now.
Brian Barr Joker and Harley. I loved Batman: The Animated Series as a kid and they will always be my favorite fictional couple.
Brian Barr Write anyway. You'd be surprised what you come up with when you can't think of anything.
Brian Barr If you're drawn to writing and it's your dominant interest, then you're happy while doing it. That's the best thing. Same if you're into math and you're doing mathematics, or you're an athlete and you're playing sports. It's always best to be doing what you want to do.
Brian Barr Write the type of books you want to write and are passionate about. A 'writer' told me I needed to write more "mainstream" work, and he's one of those types that's focused on fame and fortune more than a genuine love of the craft. Screw that. I'm a writer, my heart is in this. When you read my work, I want you to see and feel that love. If you're a writer, I hope you write from a genuine passion for the craft as well. Go with your heart and your love. Whether you're a household name or not, you'll never falter.

Write for love.
Brian Barr I work on an ongoing comic book series called Empress with Chuck Amadori (co-writer and co-creator), Marcelo Salaza (artist), Geraldo Filho and Matheus Bronca (colorists).

I've been writing many short stories, and that's something I want to keep constant.

Along with that, I'm working on my next novels- the second Carolina Daemonic volume, Rebel Hell, and a novel based on a comic character I created years ago, Zian Ur the Serpent King. The Serpent King is 1/3 done, at least, since there will be three parts.

I'm also working on the Super Inc. series, which are short novels dedicated to my love for pulp fiction and classic spandex/power comic heroes :) This stories are a little more camp and cornball, but dark and serious in their own way.
Brian Barr I am a music fiend. Music inspires me a lot when I'm writing. Recently, I've gotten heavily into Bauhaus, so I'll listen to that when I write. I also like Siouxsie and the Banshees, PiL, anything Danzig from Misfits to Samhain.

Other writers inspire me as well, like Tad Williams, George R.R. Martin, Anthony Burgess, Clive Barker, Alan Moore.. and those are just some of my favorites.
Brian Barr I took a trip to England in May of 2013. While visiting the Northwest and seeing Lancaster, Blackpool, and other cities, I was blown away by how old the buildings looked, how many cobblestone streets there were. I thought about the oldest place I knew in my state back at home (South Carolina, USA) and instantly thought of Charleston, where there are some cobblestone streets, old slave markets, and old naval ports.

During my stay in England, I got curious about steampunk (inspired by the old archetecture and thinking about Victorian England). I did a google search to find out more about steampunk and the first author to come up was China Mieville. I bought his book, Perdido Street Station, from a Waterstones and read it for nearly 500 or so pages within that week. Instantly, I was inspired and hooked by the idea of steampunk and decided to play with it myself.

Traveling down to Brighton in the south of England, I started to write Carolina Daemonic. What started as an intentional "steampunk" novel became something way more. The steampunk is actually minimal in comparsion to the stronger dark occult fantasy-horror that dominates the book, along with an alternative timeline where the Confederacy won the civil war. So, I have to thank my state, South Carolina, England, steampunk and China Mieville for inspiring me with the initial ideas. I was also inspired by Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. All of these things gave me the initial ideas for my most recent book and debut novel, Carolina Daemonic.
