Stewart Home Hanging out in public toilets, using the glory holes, I got invited to an orgy. It was in a London art school. I had so much fun I decided I just had to write a book called Art School Orgy.
Stewart Home I started on Moorcock's Elric books when I was 12 and while many consider the Jerry Cornelius cycle superior, I still have a soft spot for Stormbringer from first reading it in 1974. I read the JC books a few years later. That said, my favourite thing Michael Moorcock has done is tell me that he knew my mother in passing through one of her boyfriends in Ladbroke Grove back in the day......
Stewart Home Browsing new titles in a bookshop is often a good start. Usually I find there's nothing of any interest to me at all and that inspires me to write something I'd actually want to read.
Stewart Home My lats. I have naturally good shoulders but my lats require more attention. Working mostly with pull ups & rows (both barbell and one handed). If I was using a gym I'd be on the pull down machine too but I prefer to work out at home where I don't have room for more than a fold out bench, stands & weights etc. No room for machines. I do sometimes do lat pull downs with strength bands but I don't find this is as effective as using weights or bodyweight. Clearly I won't ever have lats that are as phenomenal, as say, Bruce Lee - but with work we can always improve what we've got!
Stewart Home There is nothing aspirational about writing. If you have something to say you might want to write it down in order to clarify your thinking. If you don't have anything to say then forget about writing and get a life. Those who live poetically don't waste their time writing poetry!
Stewart Home Self-identifying as a writer is a really bad idea, it's a constricted role and one I have no wish to assume. Just because I've written more than two dozen books doesn't mean I see myself as a writer and it annoys me that others often try to push me into a literary strait-jacket. Fortunately I'm the Houdini of late-capitalism and I always escape!
Stewart Home Writer's block is something only those who want an "identity" as a writer "suffer" from. If you have something to say then say it, if you don't have anything to say that's not a problem. Wanting to write because you want an "identity" as a writer when you have nothing to say is what writer's block is often about. People also freeze up because they wanna be a "profound" and "great" "writer" but if they didn't care about such things they'd find it way easier to write. Those, like me, who don't want an identity as a "writer" never suffer from "writer's block" - and if we've something to say we might still knock out a whole series of books and/or shorter pieces of writing. I don't identify as a "writer", I don't get "writer's block" and therefore I don't have to "deal" with it - but I have written a slew of books.
Stewart Home I heard a thud as the mystery novel I'd agreed to review came through my letter box and hit the floor. I tore open the package and discovered I'd been sent a new book by Julian Barnes.....
Stewart Home I'd go to hell as featured in The Bible & many subsequent works of fiction and free the prisoners....
Stewart Home "Lists colonise the mind and impoverish the imagination. Lists will always disappoint, even as they promise an inexhaustible world, an infinite plenum. Lists bludgeon the dispossessed with a metric of popularity, as if it is a universal value. Lists assert property, mastery, possession. Lists are an anti-book politics. Lists are metrics." Elena Gorfinkel.
Stewart Home Was my father actually JFK?

I don't know who my father was but my mother worked as a hostess at Murray's Cabaret Club in London with Profumo Affair sex scandal stars Christine Keeler & Mandy Rice-Davies.

The non-fiction book Honey Trap by Anthony Summers and Stephen Dorril suggests the Profumo Affair was a cover up for JFK's involvement with Mariella Novotny (also famous for a role in Profumo Affair) and other sex workers from the same circle - which included Keeler, Rice-Davies & my mother Julia Callan.

JFK came to London in the summer of 1961 and 9 months later I was born. Since it is quite likely my father was one of my mother's johns and she was part of a circle of sex workers from which JFK pulled women to bed, it is possible - but not probable - that the American president is my father....

I paint a lightly fictionalised picture of my mother's life in my 2005 novel Tainted Love but her connections to those involved in the Profumo Affair could provide the plot for a whole new book.
