My divorce was very hard on me and cause me to suffer a breakdown. I finally decided to get some therapy and was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. While going through my journal that I was forced to write in, I thought, "Hey, this would make a great book!" Then I wove a fictitious story in there, and I think it worked pretty well

A lot of my writing has been inspired by dreams. But since my dreams have turned very boring in the last bunch of years, the question remains, how do I now get inspired to write? Beer.

1. A book about a very bland future
2. A book about the quirky places I've lived. (I've lived in a haunted house from the 1700's, I've lived in a house with a fake Amish landlord, I've lived in an apartment with a schizophrenic gangsta downstairs, etc. etc)
3. A dark mafia comedy
4. A dark romance-sex-romp comedy
5. The ABC's of fiction... Starring YOU!

It's very easy to get discouraged when you put your book(s) out there, and there are no sales, no reviews, no feedback except for a few family members, and maybe some friends (if you have some friends). Spend some time marketing. There are tons of places to go promote your book for free or for money, and marketing can be a full-time job in itself. That being said, it is also easy to get discouraged when you put time and money into that and you still don't see results right away. Don't fret. It takes time for results to show. Don't think of it as a career. It's something you should enjoy doing. If you truly believe you have something valuable, people will read it. Focus on having fun.

Is it the money?? The fame???? No. This is going to sound simple, but it's just fun. I love writing. That answer doesn't get any simpler, so I'm not going to put any more words into this answer.

Method one: a good, expensive plunger works for heavy blockages
Method two: work full time on marketing the books I already have out tends to motivate me to write
Method three: It seems the hardest part of overcoming writer's block is the initial idea. I find creative ways to ask people for their ideas. For instance, my next plan is to write a book with a story for every letter of the alphabet, and have 26 people give me a subject to write about starting with one letter. Kind of like "The ABC's of Death" movie. That's 26 free ideas right there.
