Lorna Schultz Nicholson Thank you so much, Zoe!! I know I'm late answering this. I'm not on Goodreads that much but I watched a tutorial on it today, and here I am. I really appreciate you telling me you loved my books. I get my inspiration from listening and watching what is around me. My mother was also an inspiration for me because she taught me to love reading!
Lorna Schultz Nicholson Haha. I don't believe in writer's block. To me it is a fancy word for procrastination. Honestly, if you sit long enough something will come.
Lorna Schultz Nicholson Readers telling you they liked your book, that it meant something to them. It's all about the readers, your audience. I do a lot of school visits because I write for children and teens and when kids tell me they like my books I'm thrilled because it means they READ SOMETHING. I believe in literacy and I think reading a book is a beautiful thing.
Lorna Schultz Nicholson Keep writing. Don't give up. Write that first draft and don't stop halfway through and go back and make change after change.
But here's the biggest one: Don't let the little voices in your head tell you your work is crappy. Chances are that first draft is BUT writing is rewriting.
Lorna Schultz Nicholson I'm currently working on the second novel in the One-2-One series. It is about Erika, a girl born with Down syndrome and Gianni, her Best Buddy.
Lorna Schultz Nicholson Writing is putting yourself in your chair and doing it. Lol. But on a more serious note, I usually research for months, then write an outline before actually typing chapter one. And once I start I try really hard to write every day (well, almost every day) until I've finished that first draft. Which, by the way, is usually pretty crappy.
Lorna Schultz Nicholson I was working with my editor on topics for series and her daughter's friend walked in her house wearing a Best Buddies T-shirt and we thought that a series featuring a teen with an intellectual disability and one without, written in two voices, would make a great series. So...it started. I'm currently writing the second book in the series and it is about a young girl born with Down Syndrome and her Best Buddy.
