My books are about things that I really enjoy doing: gardening and cycling. When I get out and do either of those activities, they're very physical, and my brain kind of goes into neutral. Often that's when I will have an idea for a new blog post or something that I want to research and write.
So I guess the inspiration comes from doing the activity. I don't think I'd recommend that for a serial killer novelist , but it works for how-to non-fiction!

My books are about cycling and gardening, two things I love to do. So it's not very tough for me to say, well, I need to research a book or a blog post, so I'm going outside to do something fun!

I'm working on a memoir and history about my father in World War II. He was with an elite commando unit that fought in the Italian campaigns, and he was injured in the big push to liberate Rome. This is a fascinating and challenging project for me because it's two new genres that I've only dabbled in.
