By hearing stories about individuals whose acts of courage and selflessness changed the world. And, unfortunately, as in the case of my latest book, by learning of individuals whose acts of cover-up and selfishness destroy that which the courageous have established.

I was a juror in the high-profile criminal trial of Whitey Bulger. Going into the trial, I anticipated being disturbed by Bulger's alleged criminality. What I didn't anticipate was the depth of the corruption within the FBI, DOJ, and CIA -- or that the media didn't accurately portray this corruption.
Following the trial, I interviewed many -- including Whitey Bulger, and realized that the story the public has been given was carefully weaved and controlled. The question is why?
Reporters and authors of stories about him never corresponded or talked to him. Directors and actors who portrayed him -- including Johnny Depp, never contacted him. I have.
