I got the ideas for my most recent published book, Book of Angels, from an experience I had going to Dublin and viewing the Book of Kells and other illuminated manuscripts. One of the things that inspired me to write the NIGHT ANGLES CHRONICLES series was I read a 1930s Los Angeles Times article about a man named Schufelt who convinced the Los Angeles City Council to fund his search for a city built beneath Los Angeles 5,000 years ago by and advanced civilization to escape a reign of fire. Within the city there was said to be a chamber with treasure and a tablet upon which is written the Secrets to the Origins of Life. Whoever can read the tablet will have the power of God. Schufelt tunneled down to find the chamber. He said he had just about reached it when he mysteriously disappeared. This is the legend that my series is built on. Sera has the key to the chamber and is searching for its location.

I have never been able to figure out what really inspires me, or what drives me to create. Certainly, I am inspired by my own life experiences. I am inspired by history and superheroes and vampire stories that I read as a child. The Narnia Chronicles, which I read at age ten, was a huge influence in my life. It made me want to create worlds that people could get lost in, just as I had been lost inside Narnia.

I am currently working on Land of Talismans, volume four in the NIGHT ANGELS CHRONICLES. Volume three, Cave of Secrets, is due to be released soon. AND, I am working on my childhood memoir, INTO THE WORLD, an account of my adventures traveling the world during the tumultuous 1960s with my fundamentalist Christian family and how it opened my eyes to an appreciation of people of all faiths and cultures.

My advice for aspiring writers is to read, read read. And then, write, write, write. When you're writing don't get hung up on the first paragraph or the first chapter. Just keep going until the end. Nothing has to be perfect. That's a beauty of writing. You can go back and change things and make improvements later. Lots of people have great ideas. But sitting down and actually bringing those ideas to fruition takes discipline and hard work.

The best thing about being a writer is that I get to create worlds and characters out of my imagination. In Night Angels Chronicles, I have been able to create the kind of heroine in Sera that I would have loved to read about when I was a teenager.
