Becky Hatcher Crabtree I am most always ready to write something! For me, it helps to clear away the maintenance parts of life (dishes, clean clothes, animals cared for) and settle my mind.
Becky Hatcher Crabtree I stop writing. The spirit will return when it is ready. Often my mental processes just have to iron out wrinkles in my thinking and then I can write. Once, I percolated on a real-life issue for weeks and inspiration hit while I was wrapping books to mail. I put them aside and typed the document I needed and did so without even one backspace. It was a petition to a judge for a legal issue. Several hours later the judge's clerk commented on how beautifully it was written and the judge granted it without a hearing - just signed it!
Becky Hatcher Crabtree I have two active projects:

1. A biography of Dr. Henry Lake Dickason (he grew up around the mountain from us), the grandson of slaves who became a college president.

2. The sequel to Drunk on Peace and Quiet - maybe the second of an Appalachian trilogy.
Becky Hatcher Crabtree The event that triggered my emotions was a gospel singing group that seemed to be focused more on money than on the Word. I watched them carefully and imagined a back story for their lives. And, one of my main characters, Timmy Lee, was born!

Afterwards, I started writing Drunk on Peace and Quiet using that memory at a writing seminar at John C. Campbell Folk School led by awesome author Vicki Lane.
