The spirit will return when it is ready. Often my mental processes just have to iron out wrinkles in my thinking and then I can write. Once, I percolated on a real-life issue for weeks and inspiration hit while I was wrapping books to mail. I put them aside and typed the document I needed and did so without even one backspace. It was a petition to a judge for a legal issue. Several hours later the judge's clerk commented on how beautifully it was written and the judge granted it without a hearing - just signed it!(less)
