This question is a VERY tough decision for me to make... and here's why. When we read a story set in any fictional universe, it is always through the lens of the characters who generally become embroiled in some sort of strife or conflict without which the story wouldn't be very good. This leads to a very dystopian view of a lot of the worlds we learn about. As much as I love them, worlds like Herbert's Dune, Rowling's Potter universe, and the grimdark future of the Warhammer 40,000 Black Library would not be fun places to visit in a real sense. At least not for me.
I think if I HAD to pick something... I would want to visit Tolkien's Middle Earth. BUT I would want to hang out in the Shire. Soak up some wonderful hospitality of the hobbits. I hear they make exceptional ale.

I'm currently reading the Myst series of books by Rand Miller, and very excited to get into some K.W. Jeter and Jules Verne treasures that I recently picked up at my favorite local bookstore.

When I was serving in the Canadian Navy, one of the ships I was on had a story of a sailor who took his own life at sea after receiving a Dear John letter from his wife. As the story goes, he hung himself deep in the bowels of the engineering space where he finally found peace in the drone of machinery and the washing of water outside the hull. Till the end of that ships service, people said the space was haunted.
During one of my watches, far away from land in the middle of the pacific ocean, I had an encounter with the ghost, or at least I thought I did. I think that would make a great story, or at least inspiration for one. Ghost stories at sea and all that.
