How do you get inspired to write?

Maureen Sherry Inspiration comes from all over the place but putting the thoughts down on paper is where it gets tricky. If I have an idea I do nothing. If it sticks in my head, I start writing something about it and then and put it aside. If it keeps getting re-worked in my brain I think it's probably worth spending some serious time with. For me it's a slow process.

Maureen Sherry One adult book, one children's book and trying to not become distracted!

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Maureen Sherry If you were an athlete you would practice your sport for a few hours every day. It's the same with writing. Just make yourself for a bit of time each day, write. You will get so much better.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Maureen Sherry The best thing about being a writer is that when you are reading someone else's book, you can say that you are working. Hey, you're doing 'research."!

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Maureen Sherry I actually have an answer for this! I stop what I'm trying to write about and get right to the most exciting part of a story. I write the exciting part which I find to be quite simple. Once I have that part down, it's easier to go back in a fill the parts that were hard for me to get down on paper. Hope that helps, Maureen

Dear Ms. Sherry, My students asked a question about Walls Within Walls. I told them they needed to ask you. They brought back a note that said(spelling and grammar left the same), "To: Maureen Sherry,Why did you put "We pay you?" Carron asked. "of corse you can play with us, " said her dad. because it dosn't make since." from: Hallie, Makea, and Nicholas Schluter Elementary Scool."

Maureen Sherry Hi Christa-I wrote "we pay you" because Carron was only a very young child in that book and that is how my own 4 year-old used to ask if she could play with her siblings. "We Pay you?"
