I don't have reading lists. I download from Gutenberg whatever strikes my fancy at the moment; that or whatever I pick up on my quarterly visits to Half-Price Books. Currently (MAR 2020) I'm on a science/religion kick. I don't find the two incompatible.

I'd like to visit Barsoom; altho I don't think I'd last very long there. It's a violent place, I hear. Still I'd love to see those 2 moons orbiting the night sky.

Thank you, Almira.
I too would rather read a 'real' book. Unfortunately as an indie author I don't have much say in the matter. Without a 'name' publisher to back me there's little chance of me finding my way into your neighborhood bookstore... Unless of course you'd ask them to stock me.
However, for those who prefer print, I have converted all of my current books to paperback format and they are available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/kindle-dbs/ent.... This would be my OUT OF TEXAS series and INCIDENTAL CONTACT.
If you can put aside your dislike for Amazon long enough to go there and check out my stuff I'd appreciate it. Admittedly the Kindle editions are cheaper, but the print versions are priced to where I make the minimum allowable royalty on each sale.
One thing I should add: if you do purchase a print version, only pick from the ones with black covers. There are two other versions with brighter colors that represent earlier efforts which I have since disavowed as, frankly, not all that good. Plus I won't profit any if you buy them, so do avoid those editions.
I should also add that Smashwords does have PDF versions that can be printed if you'd like.
Thanks as always for your support.

I have a few very rabid fans who like my work. I'm certain if I could reach a wider audience there'd be some less-than-stellar comments.
I recently posted two stories at Smashwords, 'The Saguaro and the Skull' and 'In the Footsteps of Cthulhu', both influenced by HP Lovecraft. The first is serious but the second's more humorous. I'm also in the editing stages of OUT OF TEXAS 14 which I'll post to Amazon eventually.
Thank you for your question. I hope you'll find my stories to your liking.

Absolutely. If something doesn't make me laugh then I wouldn't expect my readers to laugh either.

"I hear a noise downstairs," said the co-ed in the flimsy negligee, "You guys stay here while I go investigate."

I ran out of things to read. My favorite authors died or stopped publishing and I couldn't find anything to take their place, so I had to fill in the gap myself. I apologize if that sounds conceited. It isn't meant to. I just don't find many authors today writing the sort of stuff I like.
James Hold
Dozens of things. It all depends on how I feel that particular day.

Read as many how-to books as you can. Bone up on proper grammar. Watch your spelling. Never consider your work to be 100% complete. Never stop editing. So much for mechanics. As for subjects, it's all been done before so don't worry about being original. Write whatever you like, but be honest and respect the intelligence of your audience.

You create a world where you are in charge. That doesn't happen in reality. Being in charge lets your personality come thru and you ultimately find out if you're an optimist or a pessimist.
James Hold
I've never suffered writer's block per se. I do have periods where I grow physically tired of writing and will take a month or two off.
