My inspiration for story comes from many different places, my family, observing human interaction (I am very nosy) and also from my dreams (I have some wacky dreams). However my inspiration to write them down - that's entirely different. I wouldn't call it inspiration, more of a nagging voice of guilt that sits on my shoulder and taps on my head until eventually I stop doing all of the other thing that I seem to have become engrossed in and I knuckle down and concede to the internal pressure.

Write! Write a lot. And read even more. Learn what you like and what doesn't work for you. Write different scenes, challenge yourself and find your voice. Don't worry about being rubbish, write as though no one will ever read what you have written - perhaps they will and perhaps they won't. Just write for the pleasure of writing and see what happens!

For me the best thing about being a writer is the process. I love the way a germ of an idea grows and develops before blossoming into a fully fledged thing. It is also strange and quite wonderful to me to find that when I read the stories back at a later date it feels as though they have nothing to do with me but that they came from somewhere else entirely.

I keep writing! Even if it feels like rubbish, I find it helpful to just keep putting something down. Generally the act of writing itself helps me to move through the mire to a more productive place.
