The awesome pay checks you get in the mail!
Just kidding. If you get into writing for the money, you might be disappointed.
I think the best thing about this writer life is the adventure of it all. It's a challenge, and it requires you to step outside your comfortable box and enter into an entirely new world. There's nothing comfortable about writing. It's hard work, and it can be terribly vulnerable.
But the feeling you get when you finally type THE END is magical. It's like holding your newborn baby in your arms for the first time. Suddenly all the pain melts away, and you feel such a sense of awe at this creation.
Yeah, that's definitely the best part.

Do not give up! And learn to take criticism. It's really not so bad once you get used to it. If you view criticism as an opportunity to grow and get better at your craft, you'll find that you welcome rather than shun it. Just remember that the greatest writers have all faced criticism. The one left standing are the ones we keep talking about.

I'm digging into the research for my second novel. I'm firming up characters in my head, time frames, and the back story needed to drive the plot. I'm feeling itchy to write, but pulling back and allowing the idea to simmer for a bit is an important component to my creative process.

I've always loved writing. I was the kid who scratched out stories on torn notebook paper during the free moments of her days. I filled journal upon journal with broad stories of life, sometimes slightly embellished, chronicling each day with great dramatic flare.
Writing is really just a part of my every day, but sometimes the words get all jammed up inside, and those are the times that I know I need to step away. I'll spend a few days just reading to clear my mind and breath inspiration. Or I'll get outside, have a dance party with my kids. Stepping away does so much to fuel a writer's brain. We need white spaces in order to keep creating, so I work to build in those white spaces when I can, particularly when I'm looking for a bit of inspiration.
