Jules Gabriel Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues, because I think it is the duty and obligation of a fiction writer, to create a world we as readers want to experience for ourselves. This writer did just that for generations of readers. What an achievement and what a role model for those of us who want to do the same with our own writing!

When I get an idea for a piece, I have found I develop it first as a short story. I don't know why. But as I do this, it often takes a flight of its own, and I see that this could or perhaps should become a novel. What do you think?

I watch a movie, go pet the dog, get off the computer and wonder in the garden. I do things like that and hope to leave the writer's block there before I sit down again to write.
