Caleb T. Brabham The ability to be able to take ideas, or characters, or life experiences from your head and convey them to someone else. To have a stranger carrying around a world you created inside their heads is the greatest compliment of all.
Caleb T. Brabham Write the book. Write it and rewrite it. Don't ever be afraid to start over from scratch.
Caleb T. Brabham I think writer's block is mystified into this flu-like affliction that affects your ability to write. There are lots of better words for it: fatigue, procrastination, laziness ... true writer's block, by my definition and my definition only, is a complete barrier separating you from telling your story. You can write hundreds of pages and tens of drafts - but you can't solve your problem. Maybe it's because you don't have the right main character, or the right ending, or maybe one of your characters is keeping a secret from you. Maybe it's all three - that was my unfortunate lot once. The way I deal with it is the last thing any writer wants to hear - I stopped writing. I put the story on the shelf for a year or two. Then, slowly, in the background of my mind, my subconscious would work on it, solving each problem and thinking of new characters. When it sounded like it got a good idea, I'd jot it down - but I wouldn't start writing on it until it was something I wanted to read.
Caleb T. Brabham "Godthread" is an answer to a personal question I've had for over ten years; If Christianity or Religion is about "salvation" and noir is about "damnation" is there a way to combine both of those and square that circle? Can you write a theological noir that is respectful and truthful to both ideas?
You'll have to tell me if I succeeded ...
