Andrea Zug The dark streets were quiet but for the click-click of my boot heels, until a faint brushing sound reached my ears. I turned toward the sound, all I could see was teeth, all I could feel was pain.
Andrea Zug This is easy. I would go through the wardrobe into the land of Narnia. I would see everything there was to see.
I would search out that big, gorgeous lion and hug him for an hour or so. Then we would search out any evil doers we could find and vanquish them.
After a relaxing picnic in the tall grass, I would return home, satisfied.
Andrea Zug I've been so focused on finishing Wildcat Four and finding a new publisher, I haven't thought much about what I'd like to read.
I will look for new releases from Koontz and King for sure. I'm trying to talk myself into reading something whimsical for a change. I'm not sure where to start that particular search, however.
When I finish with my latest novel I will update you on the books I add to my reading list. Thanks for the question.
Andrea Zug That's an amazing question. We all have mysteries in our lives, some more interesting than others, I'm sure. I'm not sure I could find anything else from my life to put into my books.
My family is there, my children are there, my husband's Vietnam War trauma is there. Even memories from my childhood are in my work.
I doubt I have held anything back from my readers.
Andrea Zug From my husband. PTSD never goes away but it can be managed by confronting traumatic events and dealing with them. The more you can get your brain to release the easier it is to deal with the trauma of it.
Andrea Zug I have always loved to write, mostly poetry in the beginning.
My first novel was inspired by my husbands battle with PTSD. I used the
novel as a way to ask questions that didn't intimidate him or add to his trauma.
But through these questions he was able to release some of the traumatic events that he encountered in war and held inside for decades.
Andrea Zug Wildcat Four, my fifth novel in the series.
This one is very important to Mike Lancer. Wildcat Four was his Recon team in the Republic of Vietnam.
Andrea Zug Well it has to be Mike and Angela Lancer. Why is simple, because I know them so well. We have been together for over eleven years. In that time I have been confused by them, laughed with them, cried with them, watched their children grow and watched as they helped others our of some scary situations.
Andrea Zug Before you begin, make sure writing is what you really want to do. Just because you like to read, doesn't mean you will like to write. It sounds so simple doesn't it. You sit down at the computer with a blank screen in front of you and viola, you become an author. If only it was that easy.
Writing takes patience, it takes immense desire and has to fulfill a need within you.
There will be times when you want to throw the manuscript in the trash and never look at it again...and many do just that. But if you feel something pushing you forward, you can take criticism, you can muddle through the times when inspiration is non-existent...you just might be a writer.
Andrea Zug The best thing about being a writer is...adventure. I can create a crime scene and then solve the crime. I can travel to exciting places and meet interesting people without ever leaving home. I can create heroes, good neighbors, interesting witnesses, as well as bad guys.
I can create characters with traits of people I know, therefore making them seem 'real' to the reader.
The creative process is the best thing about being a writer.
Andrea Zug I think of writer's block as my Muse being on vacation or taking a few days off. The worst thing you can do is get stressed out. Stress will only make the inability to write worse.
When I sit down at the keyboard to write and inspiration is nowhere to be found I go back a few pages and reread what I've written. Many times doing that will send ideas flowing through my brain...but not always.
Relax, read, watch tv for a while and try again. It will pass.
