Mike A. Lancaster Ah, the strange affair of the UK and US titles. "1.4" and "The Future We Left Behind" are the same book, just titled for the UK and US editions respectively.
Mike A. Lancaster Hi there! I guess the answer lies with publishers, really. I have another couple of books planned in that series (a midquel [?] that comes between 1 & 2 and answers a few of the questions raised in both books; and then a final hurrah that looks even further into the future and answers some more) but they're on hold as I work on another series (dotwav is the first book, I'm writing the 2nd now) and I'll have to see if the love is there for pointfour sequels when I return to them.

At the moment you're stuck on a cliffhanger, but it's a kinda cool cliff to be hanging off, and if I get a chance to continue the series I will. In a heartbeat. I love the pointfour world and the things I can do there.
Mike A. Lancaster Wow, thank you, and I think I need to get "Royally Awesome" printed up on a tee-shirt!

Apart from the .4s I have another two sf books written, and enough ideas to keep me going ... well, for the forseeable future. I will get back to Kyle and Lilly (they appear only in passing in book 2) because they have some pretty crazy adventures ahead of them, but my next book - dotwav - is a different proposition: still sf, hopefully pretty mind-blowing, and really great fun.

Good to hear from you. Let me know what you think of the sequel!

Mike
Mike A. Lancaster Hey, thank you for the 'amazing', so glad you're enjoying it!

As for hypnosis: I have never hypnotised anyone nor been hypnotised myself. There's something just so eerie about the idea and, to be honest, it creeps me out. That's why I thought Kyle and the others being hypnotised was the perfect thing for the book.

So how would I feel if it happened to me? I guess I'd be a lot more freaked out and useless than Kyle was. That's one of the great things about being a writer. Our characters can be braver and more resilient than we are in real life.

All the best

Mike.
Mike A. Lancaster Hey, that's a good question. Hopefully the answer isn't too boring!

As often happens, the inspiration for the series was inspired by a simple observation, filtered though my imagination.

I was upgrading the operating system on my Mac, watching the processes as it it upgraded, and I realised that the latest OS X was reusing some parts of the old OS, whilst overwriting other parts. I idly wondered what the bits that were being overwritten would feel about the upgrade, and what the parts that were untouched would make of the new environment they were now operating within.

The idea kept churning around in my brain, refusing to leave (which is how I tend to recognise when an idea is good enough to put down on paper), evolving and growing with every passing day.

A week or so later the plot for 0.4 (Human.4) arrived at the front of my mind, pretty much fully formed.
