Sherrill S. Cannon No mystery. I guess that's why I write children's books!
Sherrill S. Cannon Scarlett and Rhett... Strong, independent, beautiful woman and a handsome, polished, strong man. The battle of wills never resolved, and a relationship left pending...
Sherrill S. Cannon Hi Harold,
I have never really self-published, since I consider my publisher, SBPRA, a “help-publish” Indie publisher. For my first published book, Santa’s Birthday Gift, I paid a small fee (plus Illustration Fees) and consider it the best investment I have ever made! The sales have topped 5K, so far, and it makes me very happy to know the book has reached that many children.
My biggest disappointment in bringing my books to the public is the “stigma” of not being traditionally published. When I lived in upstate NY, the Barnes & Noble there was wonderful, and I was offered many book-signing opportunities. Now, in the Philly area and others, I am told that they will not handle POD (print-on-demand) books. So while it is disappointing, I have my books in many other bookstores as well as online – so it’s their loss!
My age group has always been the ages 3-8 children. They are most receptive to the rhyming style I use, and I try to teach consideration for others, disguised as fun stories – so they learn as they read. If all children could learn to treat others the way they would like to be treated, what a wonderful world this would be!
Sherrill S. Cannon My books all attempt to "teach" - whether good manners, consideration for others, no whining, self-esteem, good listening... I guess once a teacher, always a teacher. The important thing is to disguise values as fun stories!!
Sherrill S. Cannon I really don't have "writer's block"... the only block I have is lack of time! With six published books and a seventh ready to release (not to mention seven published plays for children) I keep very busy...and find it a relief to occasionally sit down and play with some of the manuscripts I still have pending...
Sherrill S. Cannon The first book I wrote was Peter and the Whimper-Whineys, which I wrote from a story my mother used to tell to my brother and me, and later told to her grandchildren, as well as numerous second grade students during her many years as an elementary school teacher. As she grew older, I wanted to preserve the story; and since I have always loved writing lyrical rhyming poetry, it seemed logical to put it into rhyme! I had so much fun that I continued writing children’s stories, combining my love for children and my love for poetry. The best is when I go to schools and read to the children!!!
Sherrill S. Cannon Sharing my books with the children! That's what it's all about...
Sherrill S. Cannon Be prepared to have your book edited, preferably before submission!
Sherrill S. Cannon My newest children's book, Teacher's Warning, will be available in 2015
Sherrill S. Cannon Seeing works of art, worth millions, that looked very much like my children's artwork...
