Harold Krakower asked Sherrill S. Cannon:

Hi Sherrill When you wrote your first book did you self publish?what has been your biggest disappointment in bringing your books to the public?. What age group do you enjoy over the other groups?

Sherrill S. Cannon Hi Harold,
I have never really self-published, since I consider my publisher, SBPRA, a “help-publish” Indie publisher. For my first published book, Santa’s Birthday Gift, I paid a small fee (plus Illustration Fees) and consider it the best investment I have ever made! The sales have topped 5K, so far, and it makes me very happy to know the book has reached that many children.
My biggest disappointment in bringing my books to the public is the “stigma” of not being traditionally published. When I lived in upstate NY, the Barnes & Noble there was wonderful, and I was offered many book-signing opportunities. Now, in the Philly area and others, I am told that they will not handle POD (print-on-demand) books. So while it is disappointing, I have my books in many other bookstores as well as online – so it’s their loss!
My age group has always been the ages 3-8 children. They are most receptive to the rhyming style I use, and I try to teach consideration for others, disguised as fun stories – so they learn as they read. If all children could learn to treat others the way they would like to be treated, what a wonderful world this would be!
