Philip Pearce I grew up on a small farm. There are so very many things to be learned and experiences to be had from that kind of upbringing. I've shared those things with my kids and grandkids over the years, and I decided one day to start writing them down. I didn't intend to write a book when I started - I just wanted to write down a few stories. It evolved into a book as I went along.
Philip Pearce Often it's something that happens that reminds me of a story from past experiences. The hard part isn't having the story. The hard part is learning to make the association with something that has happened with a story I have in me. Then, as I said in an earlier answer, I have to develop an outline for a chapter in my mind and get it written down. Bottom line for me is I have to pay attention to what's going on and make the connections.
Philip Pearce I have at least two more books in me. I want to write a sequel for my first book, Rusti. I also want to write a book about life's lessons and experiences I've had living the past 40+ years as a paraplegic. Perhaps I can help other people to become prepared to deal with adversity in their own lives - it will come on all of us in some form.
Philip Pearce Remember that no one else has the stories you have in you. Keep them uniquely your own.
Philip Pearce Sharing thoughts, ideas, and life lessons with other people. Helping readers to experience some of what I've been blessed to experience. The reactions I've gotten from people who've read a book I wrote are very gratifying, both from young people who tell me they've learned something from it and from older people who tell me it reminded them of something in their own lives.
Philip Pearce Exercise. I'm a paraplegic wheelchair user. Part of my workout regime is to roll in my chair - usually 6-8 miles. I don't use headphones or ear buds, because I don't want music or anything else to distract me. Often I will have an entire chapter in my mind by the time I get home - not all details, but a fairly solid outline I can write down and flesh out later. It's important for me to get the outline down before I lose the thoughts rather than starting with too many details.
