Oh my gosh, Natalie! I never saw this question a year ago or I would have certainly answered you. So sorry about that. Technology and I are not friends!
I love my Highland Isles series! Each story came to me in order, so Tor and Ella were first. They also make appearances in my Brothers of Wolf Isle series (just 20 years later). I write "by the seat of my pants" so no, I did not have an outline first. They came to me little by little, letting me in on their backstories as I went. I think they really played well together!
Thank you so much for your kind words! It makes writing for months on a book worth it. Sorry again for not responding. Have a lovely day! Heather

(view spoiler)[Do you ever think about writing a continuation for the campbell series focusing on the stories of cici, izzy, kirstin, kerrick etc. as well as the sinclairs (mungo, logan, alistair...) ? (hide spoiler)]

Hi Ines! Thanks for asking.
I love all those characters! And they certainly all deserve their own stories. Just right now, I have some other contracted work that's keeping me way too busy. Maybe in the future I can write some novellas about each one, shorter stories where we can see how they end up being happy.
Now that I'm writing other series (and falling in love with those characters too), I truly do miss my Campbells characters.

I drink chai lattes. Something about the cinnamon lures my muse back. I also listen to music that reminds me of my characters. I look at pictures of 16th century clothes, people, and places. And I go for a walk with the scene in mind. My blood starts pumping, and usually the voices start up again.

I am never bored. Really! Even stuck in traffic, I let my mind wander to whatever book I'm working on or any new ideas for characters and conflict. The voices start in my head, and I have instant entertainment!

Don't give up and have patience. I know. I know. Words you've heard before. Whenever I get tied up in "am I doing well enough in this hard business" I take a step back and dive into my writing. It is the joy of a scene coming together that keeps me going.

I am currently writing the third book in my Sons of Sinclair series, which is about four brothers who were raised to believe they are The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Book one, HIGHLAND CONQUEST, is already out. Book two, HIGHLAND WARRIOR, releases April 2021!
