Wendy Percival If you like a good "puzzle" mystery which follows a trail of clues, then you'll enjoy his books. Though there is a thriller element in them too. He's very popular amongst the family history fraternity who identify with his methods of investigation!
Happy reading and compliments of the season to you and yours. :-)
Wendy Percival Hi Stephen. Yes, I’ve read a couple of Steve Robinson’s books and will read more, I’m sure. I also like Nathan Dylan Goodwin’s series about “forensic” genealogist” Morton Farrier. I love his wry sense of humour. Well worth checking out!
Wendy Percival Take a break. I'll go off and do something completely different for a while and let my subconscious work things out. It's often a good time to do the ironing! (And if you saw the height of my ironing pile, you'd realise I don't get writer's block all that often!)
Wendy Percival Readers enjoying what you've written!
Wendy Percival Keep writing, learn as much about the craft as you can and read, read, read.
Wendy Percival I've just finished writing a second Esme Quentin novel called The Indelible Stain (to be published soon) which was inspired by reading an article in a family history magazine about researching convict ancestors. So while that's going through the pre-publishing processes, I'm doing background reading and research ready for plotting the next novel.
Wendy Percival I'm not sure I need to 'get' inspired. I just like writing. Even if I'm in the middle of a long haul and trying to get through yet another draft, once I sit down and get on with it, I get lost in the 'zone' very quickly. Having a really exciting idea and plotting it out is 'extra' inspirational. Having my characters put 'words' in my head as I'm typing or suddenly seeing how to solve a plot point is also inspirational. That's the fun of it.
Wendy Percival My most recently published book, Blood-Tied, was inspired by starting my family history. Not that the storyline is anything like my own family history, but the idea of discovering how little we really know about our families' past gave me the idea. My protagonist Esme has researched her family history and yet discovers her very own sister has secrets she never knew. What I'd learnt about digging around in the past I used in the book to solve the mystery and reveal the hidden crime.
