Kevin Klehr Strangely enough, hanging out the washing. Some of my best lines and plot twists come when I walk away from the keyboard and focus on something else.

The other advice which works is to shut your eyes and imagine that you're in a room with only a chair and a projector. You are watching the movie of your book. Let it unfold in front of you.

With my first novel, Drama Queens with Love Scenes, I found that the movie version was in 4:3 black and white. Go figure?

Once the first draft is finished, pop it away for a few months.
After a few months, print it out in a new font, and read it right through. You will see where you can improve it, and you will see mistakes that will surprise you.
