Four Paws from Heaven (Devotions for Dog Lovers)

Gabby, my last released book is for tweens: SNOW, PHANTOM STALLION OF THE POCONOS. https://www.amazon.com/Snow-Phantom-S...
My latest project I'm writing now is called STRAIGHT FROM THE HORSE'S MOUTH. It's a 60-day devotional for horse lovers. It describes 60 different horse breeds. (There are over 100). Then I compare the positive qualities of the horse breed with the positive qualities a Christian should have in his/her life to love and serve Christ. :) I'm hoping that book will be out in about a year. Thank you for asking!

Hi, Gabby, I feel God has called me to write books just like missionaries are called to go to foreign lands and tell others about our Savior, Jesus Christ. I love to tell stories with characters who love God. On good days, I write about 4 or 5 hours. I am friends with many different authors. Many of them have reviewed my work and have edited it and helped me find errors so I could make the story better. I like to select names for my characters that are really different because my characters are really different. I also choose names for my main female characters (Skye, Dallis, Woody, Rickie) that could also be names for boys. I do have another job beside writing. I'm a homeschool consultant and evaluator in the state of Pennsylvania. Once a year, homeschoolers must have a review of their work by an educator. I'm someone who can do that for them. :) Thank you for your interest in my books and me. Have you read SNOW, PHANTOM STALLION OF THE POCONOS yet?

Rachel, hi, it's nice to hear from you. I guess my favorite book that I've written is A HORSE TO LOVE because it's the first book in my Keystone Stables Series, which launched the 8-book series that's become a best seller with over 100,000 copies in print. I had horses and foster kids over a 20-year period, so a lot of the stories are based on things that really happened over the years.
Thanks for asking.

I am writing a tween girl/horse novel, SNOW, PHANTOM STALLION OF THE POCONOS. It will be released, probably, over the next month or so.
I am just about finished reading C. S. Lewis's MERE CHRISTIANITY. Next to read is Lee Strobel's THE CASE FOR A CREATOR.

I don't get writer's block too often. When I do, I take a break, like one or two days away from the manuscript, then come back to it and read the story or book from the beginning. I then spend quality time thinking through the manuscript to the end. That usually gets me going again.

I love the creative process, working out details of a plot, creating new characters, working in surprises in the manuscript, etc. The best thing is you can be your own boss and work at your own discretion. Of course, if you have contracts with publishing companies, then you must honor those by setting deadlines for yourself.

After writing for 20 years, the most valuable advice I can give is this:
1. Join a local critique group or one online to have your work critiqued. No writer can improve his/her skill without it.
2. Attend writers' conferences to meet editors and agents. It's getting harder and harder to be published. Besides the invaluable contacts you'll make with the pros, you'll meet other writers who will become supportive friends. You'll also attend workshops to help you hone your writing craft.
3. Read as many published books in your genre as you can. Also, read "how to write" books. These will only help you perfect your writing technique.

In my student years, I was encouraged by three different teachers. As an adult and mother to 12 foster children, I felt the Lord wanted me to start writing to share my experiences to help other parents, teachers, and kids. God was, and is, my ultimate inspiration to share his love with others through the printed page.

My most recent book, SNOW, PHANTOM STALLION OF THE POCONOS, is a tween novel about a young teen girl, Dallis Parker, and her quest to find a horse for her very own. The idea came from my years of working with children in education and as a foster parent and from owning horses for over 20 years. :)
