Ian D. Feldman The world is filled with interesting things to write about. I observe what goes on around me. Thematically, much of what is in The Vortex is what I see out my window - homelessness, haves/have nots, bad choices, lawlessness, and more. If you are looking for something to inspire your writing, take a few minutes to observe your environment.
Ian D. Feldman Having a series planned, I don't get writer's block per se. I break a cardinal rule in that I edit as I go. Capturing the essence of the scene on which I am working is important to me so my word count is less for each hour spent. If you have the end point in mind, writing to that end is much easier. I find distractions to be much more troublesome. Something always comes up to get in the way of the writing. To minimize that, have that sacred space you can go to for focus.
Ian D. Feldman I've been reading books by new authors like myself. I get the double benefit of supporting other new authors while learning about the craft. Check out my list of reviewed books. Check back to my reviewed page for titles that you might not otherwise get exposed to.
Ian D. Feldman Inspiration comes and goes. Its the perspiration that makes it go. I committed to getting the The Vortex finished almost three years ago. It has been a great learning experience. I've also connected with other authors along the way. Having people who are going through the same things you are provides encouragement to keep writing no matter what.
Ian D. Feldman Book 2 in the series is next. Tentatively titled 'Tremors', the seeds planted in book 1 begin to flower as the apocalypse progresses. As they say, 'the plot thickens...'
Ian D. Feldman Stephen King, in his book 'On Writing' gives the best advice on this. Write every day. Also, as an aspiring author, seek support from fellow authors. You learn a lot that way.
