Sorry to take so long to answer, Kevin. Personal Problems I won't bore you with.
Yes I can answer your question. That was an early effort at self-publishing. St. Martin's Press, who published the hardback, didn't publish the paperback so I looked around for someone to publish it. I found whoever it was that put out what you have. Forgotten who it was now. It actually was their 2nd effort, the first was even worse. Then I gave it up. I have it as an ebook now and toy with putting it out as a paperback through Amazon, but honestly, I have so many other irons in the fire including writing the 3rd in what was supposed to have been a series back then. There's weren't that many put out. Surprised you found one!

I don't get writer's block. Well, okay, once I had writer's block. Years ago I was going to write a YA about a high school girl softball pitcher. I sent off a proposal and the first so many pages. The agent or editor, can't remember which, really liked it, but I couldn't finish it. :-(

Pride in one's work. Joy when someone likes what you write.

Read everything you can get your hands on. Research. Read writing books and magazines. Talk to other writers. Go to conferences. Be persistent. Hone your craft. Be realistic. Write, write, write. Accept criticism. Don't wear your heart on your sleeve. It's tough out there.

I've just always wanted to write for as long as I can remember. There's so much material out there to write about that my files are bursting open. And I find I get grumpy if I don't sit down and write pretty frequently. BUT, I do find it hard to be creative when someone is building a house RIGHT next door, within feet of my office, which happened this year for about 6-8 months. I can edit. I can critique. I can do a lot of things, but my creativity is stifled. What I write under those circumstances is not my best work.

Back when I was in high school, I knew girls who got pregnant and gave their babies up for adoption. As a writer, I wondered in what situation would a mother ever be able to get the child back that she gave up for adoption. I had a heart-wrenching Child Protective Services case involving an autistic boy. It occurred to me, a disabled child that adoptive parents didn't want would be one such situation.
