I write mostly in the K-12 education space to share ideas with others that have proven helpful for me and for my school. I believe that school leaders have an obligation to collaborate and contribute to the welfare of children in schools everywhere. It's also important to me to help earn visibility for my school in the wider K-12 school community. So these are my main inspirations for writing.

My co-author and I are working on pieces that support publicity for our book -- earned media mostly, like blogs, book reviews, conference presentations, parenting workshops, and articles related to the topics in "Raising Kids." I'm also looking at how to extend the work I've started on the topic of student wellness (from my article, "The Dark Side of Rigor").

I have relatively little time for writing given my work schedule, so I try to plan ahead a day or two to identify writing time. I know I need to make the most of the time, so I try to get excited in advance about tackling whatever I can get done. It's more of a preventative approach I guess; I do take frequent breaks to get up and move, walk, spend a few minutes with my dogs -- these steps seem to help keep me fresh and "unblocked."
