I go for long walks and ask myself questions about my characters...why would she do that? What is he going to do now? This usually brings up images for the next few scenes and I rush back to my writing spot, eager to get it all written down.

I'm finishing the second draft of The Woman In the Water. It's the second book in the Alexandra Mallory series. I love the story that's unfolded, but the ending isn't working, so I'm taking a lot of walks and re-writing, waiting for the resolution to unfold in a slightly different way.

I'd been noticing for a while that people tend to talk at each other rather than with each other when they're using social media. I'd read some articles about how Facebook can contribute to feelings of envy and inferiority.
A character who felt envious of others' happiness came to mind, as well as a character who was addicted to social media. As I worked on their back stories, I started to realize the most interesting way to tell the story was in first person from multiple viewpoints. From there, I decided to weave in fictitious social media updates.
