The first thing I do is refer to my broad outline and remind myself where the story is going. If that doesn't work, I put it aside for a short period and work on another writing or editing project. Often the answer will come to me in my sleep.

Just do it. I didn't start Salvation and Doom until I was in my sixties and still working as an R&D engineer. I didn't get far before I figured out writing is harder than it looks and that I had a lot to learn. I attended seminars, read books on writing, joined a local writing group, used my critique partners, and was determined to accept criticism so I could improve my craft.

I am currently editing the first draft of a portal fantasy based on the comments from my beta readers and hope to get it to an editor in a few months. I am also outlining the sequel to Salvation and Doom which I hope to publish next year.
