Laura Patryas One summer afternoon when I was around 8 years old, a simple game with friends turned into an ethereal near-death experience. We were innocently exploring when I brushed against a seemingly ordinary bush, disturbing a hidden beehive. Suddenly swarmed and stung by dozens of bees, I felt my life slipping away, only to awaken in the hospital, forever changed by insights into the blurred line between life and death. Years later, a second brush with mortality left me questioning the purpose and reality of the physical world. These two near-death experiences, seemingly connected by an unseen thread, could be a great plot for a book exploring the enigmatic boundaries of life, death, and the mysteries that lie beyond.
Laura Patryas These days I prefer experiencing life first hand to reading. From the seemingly mundane to the extraordinary and everything in between, living through diverse moments provides me with endless stories and insights.
Laura Patryas If I could travel to any fictional book world, I'd choose the one from the children's cartoon "Once Upon a Time... Life." I'd love to witness myself as a tiny microbe fighting off disease, being chased by an army of white blood cells. This was my favorite cartoon as a child. Another one was "Maya the Bee"—I'd just love to sleep inside a flower, experiencing the world from a bee's perspective. I always had a fascination with the body and the natural world, wanting to see how things work. Curiosity is the spice of life.
Laura Patryas Believing everything that our minds think, I once woke up to find my reflection still asleep in the mirror. It slowly opened its eyes and whispered, "You're not supposed to be here."
