Shannon Taylor Vannatter I stop working on whatever project I'm blocked on and write something else. A completely different book or idea. Once I concentrate on something else, ideas for the block project start flowing. I also like to take walks by myself outside. A quiet walk tends to clear my mind and come up with ideas or inspiration.
Shannon Taylor Vannatter I get to work at home and my schedule is flexible. I need to write most days to meet deadlines, but if my child is sick, I can take off and care for him. Or if I need to take a day and make hospital visits with my pastor husband, I can.
Shannon Taylor Vannatter Join a national group geared toward your genre. I spent several years attending local writing conferences twice a year - a slow way to learn. I decided there had to be something more and googled Christian Romance Conferences. I found American Christian Fiction Writers. With online classes, webinars, and the yearly conference, I learned much faster. Also, check out the Seekerville blog. It started out as 12 writers trying to get published and entering contests. Now they're all published and give writing advice. My critique partner read their blog including all the archives, went to her first writing conference and a 3 book contract.
Shannon Taylor Vannatter While I wait to hear from my editor on a project, I'm working on a longer length General Fiction with lots of romance. I've wanted to write the book for a long time, but haven't had time because of deadlines.
Shannon Taylor Vannatter My office is very comfortable with my favorite pastel colors and seashells everywhere. I also have gifts and inspirational sayings people have gotten me over the years. My outdoor cat comes in daily and naps on my wicker settee while I write. I call him my muse. All of this inspires me.

I write when no one else is home or everyone's in bed. When it's quiet, my inspiration starts flowing. And if I get stuck, there's nothing like a walk up our road to get my thoughts going.
Shannon Taylor Vannatter Tori was the side character in my last release, Rodeo Song. Her life was a mess and I felt sorry for her. I decided she needed her own story and that I needed to delve into what made her the way she was and what it would take to get her to turn her life around. My newest release, Rodeo Family is Tori's story.
