Writing is a major part of my friendship with my co-writer Jared. We grew up living 2,000 miles apart, and stories were a way for us to connect before email, text messaging, and video calls existed. It continues to be an important part of our friendship, and it's even more special now to share our writing with our children.

Jared and I have just finished our first draft of a YA realistic fiction novel. This was the fastest first draft we've ever produced (by a long shot), and we're excited to start our revising process.

UNBOUND came from uniting a picture my co-writer Jared had in his head (a key sticking out of the ground in long grass) and an experience I had when my twins were infants in the NICU. My one-month-old son was waiting for surgery, and I was sitting there, keeping vigil while he slept, and staring at the clock. I wished I could stop time so that nothing bad would happen to him. It would be better to sit frozen forever than have something terrible happen. That thought morphed into a short story, and when I brought it to Jared, we pretty quickly started on the manuscript for UNBOUND.
