Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Ryan Johnson UNBOUND came from uniting a picture my co-writer Jared had in his head (a key sticking out of the ground in long grass) and an experience I had when my twins were infants in the NICU. My one-month-old son was waiting for surgery, and I was sitting there, keeping vigil while he slept, and staring at the clock. I wished I could stop time so that nothing bad would happen to him. It would be better to sit frozen forever than have something terrible happen. That thought morphed into a short story, and when I brought it to Jared, we pretty quickly started on the manuscript for UNBOUND.
