S.B. Barnes Super unhelpful, but I literally just wait it out. Sometimes it helps to focus on an entirely different project and write something else, sometimes it helps to just do something different with my time until my brain is ready again. I usually go through intense reading or writing phases, not both at the same time, so when I can't write it's usually a good time to read.
S.B. Barnes I finished a first edit of the sequel to Heart First about a month ago (tentatively titled Second Chance), but I'm sure I will come back to that. Currently I'm trying to decide between a third book in that series or something entirely different.
S.B. Barnes Usually I'll think of a specific scene or dialogue line at an incredibly inopportune moment, write it down in the notes app on my phone and then wait until I have time to sit and write it out. I used to write shorter pieces where this was the whole process, now I'm writing mostly long-form stuff this usually means finding a place for it in the outline.
S.B. Barnes Heart First was inspired by the music video for Bruce Springsteen's "I'm on Fire". No, I am not kidding. Clearly it went in very different directions, but that's where I started.
