Kate Lord Brown Who is the Woman in the Portrait - I inherited a family painting of a beautiful Georgian woman, with no record of which relation she is. I often look at her and wonder about her story - was she one of the sisters from the 'Valley of the Cats', a relation of Lloyd George, or a young daughter from the woollen mill?
Kate Lord Brown I'd escape to the South of France with 'Bonjour Tristesse' and enjoy sitting in the sun in a bustling, carefree cafe by the sea watching people and the world go by.

Kate Lord Brown Hello Julia - thank you for posting and I'm sorry I haven't replied before (Goodreads don't flag up new questions). Sadly the large print editions are decided by the publishers. Beauty Chorus was printed in the UK, but Perfume Garden and House of Dreams were US, so have American spelling. Hope it didn't detract from the story too much. Happy reading - Kate
Kate Lord Brown Hi Dorothy - glad to have helped. Hope your club enjoys the book. Kind regards Kate
Kate Lord Brown Hi Lynne - thanks for getting in touch. I'm sorry about that. My publisher was running the giveaway, so I'll ask them to check they sent a copy and sort this out for you. Best wishes, Kate
Kate Lord Brown Hello Cintia - thank you for your question. If you are feeling blocked, my advice would be to lean gently against your story, come at it sideways. Go for a walk, and think about your characters, let them 'talk' freely. Sometimes when you are blocked it means your story has a 'knot' in it, and you need to go back and unravel the story to a point where your writing was free and easy. We all go off down the wrong road at times, and sometimes you need to backtrack. Hope this is some help. I don't know where you live, but I hope the books will be available to you one day. Best wishes, Kate
Kate Lord Brown Hello Judith - lovely to hear from you, and thank you for your question. Next year will be an exciting time - 'The Perfume Garden' is being published in the US in the Spring, and I have news to share soon about a new book.

Best wishes for a Happy Christmas!

Kate
Kate Lord Brown Take a walk. Take a swim. Backtrack if necessary and cut your script to the point where you can take a different path. Blocks won't disappear if you push at them - it's often a case of finding a way around them: keep moving and keep writing.
Kate Lord Brown Liberty to chase down the answers to the questions and ideas that are burning in you. That and being able to take your dogs to work with you.
Kate Lord Brown Read. Read widely and write every day.
Kate Lord Brown I'm editing the book I mentioned above, and have just finished working on the American edition of 'The Perfume Garden' which will be coming soon in 2015.
Kate Lord Brown Inspiration is everywhere - it's a question of keeping your eyes (and heart) open.
Kate Lord Brown I'm a huge fan of the 'Antiques Roadshow' and was watching a clip about a convertible diamond tiara. The spark for my new story was thinking: what if the two wing brooches became separated? That simple idea sent me off on a year's research into jewellery making, and the end result is a story which spans from WW1 to the present day.
