The genesis was my PhD thesis, which won an award and received positive feedback. I refined this for my book.
Looking back, ten years after its original publication, I stand by almost all of the arguments expressed therein - and my use of the available evidence. I would probably re-write parts of it now to make it less 'clunky', maybe. Most reviewers say it is 'well-written', though, so maybe I am being overly self-critical!

Start typing. Something good will come eventually - sometimes it drops from the sky fully-formed, sometimes you have to work and work and bang it into shape. Both are equally as rewarding in my experience.
