The idea for my most recent book, Golden Sapphire, was born during a holiday to Australia, when we visited The Gemfields in central Queensland. The conflict between those mining the sapphires, and those buying them fascinated me, as did the way of life and the difficulties facing the miners. The yellow sapphires were so beautiful and I couldn't understand why they weren't more well known or popular, and the story virtually wrote itself.

I'm currently working on two novels. I can't discuss them because this might dissipate the flow of the stories. All I can tell you is that one is set in the Seychelles, and one in Cape Town, South Africa.

The best thing about being a writer is that it fulfills a need to express in words all the things that I love about life, and to experience the thrill of having a story appear as though from nowhere when all I've done is write the first sentence, not knowing where it will lead me or what will happen in the end. It's so exciting!
