Chris Pepple I would go back to the 1840s and visit Arrow Rock, Missouri. I would ask the townspeople questions about life on the river and in their town. I would ask them if they knew Sarah, Kathleen and Polly from Without a Voice. I would like insights to go forward with the next book.
Chris Pepple I'm looking forward to reading Amazing Grace: William Wilberforce and the Heroic Campaign to End Slavery by Eric Metaxas. Harding University chose this as a campus-wide reading program this past academic year, but I didn't have a chance to read it then. I'm also hoping to pick up some books by local authors in areas I travel to for book signings for Without a Voice.
Chris Pepple Well, I partially answered that in Without a Voice--the mystery of how a single mother can survive against all odds. I guess for me, it's part mystery and part miracle. Just like my character, Sarah, I usually couldn't see the path I needed to travel. It was a mystery to me how life could possibly work out for me and my daughters. The path was crazy at times, but life is good. .
Chris Pepple First, I walk outside. I try to clear my mind and meditate. Then I take blank paper, set a timer for one minute and write about my characters. I read through that to see if I have anything new to go with.
Chris Pepple Seeing a book completed! There's nothing more exciting than having your book in the hands of readers and to hear back from them. I appreciate feedback.
Chris Pepple Write! Set aside time daily to write at least 500 words at a minimum. And read books to see what's out on the market. Network with other authors as much as possible.
Chris Pepple I just launched my newest book, Two Frontiers, so I am pretty heavily involved in the marketing process right now. I am also making plans to research my next novel. Still too early to know what direction that will take.
Chris Pepple I have always loved writing! I used to hide in quiet places at my grandmother's house and write books as a child. I've never stopped.
Chris Pepple When I worked as the writer on staff at Lipscomb University, I interviewed Tim Johnson about his nonfiction account of the Mexican-American War. I became fascinated by the details of this time, especially the story of America's first foreign war correspondent.
