The disappearance of a family member. I'm working on it.

Very largely. Of course time is compressed, etc., but the Zajack novels are very close to my experience. They are also severely edited in their final versions, and I sometimes wonder whether some of the more interesting material ends up on the cutting room floor. My other work -- books like NO STRINGS and THE SUICIDE -- come from an altogether different place.

There is no such thing as writer's block -- seriously. To quote Leonard Bishop, they are more accurately "writer's blanks." What I do in the case of an extreme blank is do something, even if it's wrong. In other words, either skip what I was going to say and come back to it, or write anything as long as I get from point A to B and work on it in the endless revisions I subject my work to.

Hi Max: First, I apologize for this very late answer -- I've just now seen your question! I've not paid attention to the page, which I realize now I should have. So again -- sorry. But off the top of my head, I would say "unadorned," "brutal," and "elliptical."

Joseph: First let me apologize for not answering your message sooner. I actually never saw it until today! So I'm very sorry. There are so many writers that I admire. I like discovering new ones, but often find myself going back to old favorites because I don't find new authors who excite me. Anyway, some names who are favorites are: Pascal Garnier, Georges Simenon, Phillipe Djian, Jason Starr, Ramond Carver, Paul Bowles, Mohammed Market, Yukio Mishima, John Fante, Patricia Highsmith. And many, many others who slip my mind at the moment. In the old days I idolized the likes of Dostoyevsky and Henry Miller. Once again, sorry for the late answer.

Hi Jim: Thanks for writing. The only two titles in print at the moment are Hating Olivia and Nowhere Near Hollywood, which you probably know. They are available through Amazon UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=mark+saf...
They are the first and the last in the series. The other volumes -- Lounge Lizard, God Bless America, and Dirty Work -- recently went out of print. I'm working on getting them back into print as soon as possible. I know that the prices for them are outrageous, so hopefully I figure out a way to remedy that. I hope this helps, Jim. Please let me know how you fare. And thanks again.
