Currently busy at the Texas Department of Insurance and in the archives of the State Historical Commission researching a strange little case that preceded Jewel Lightfoot's involvement in the events recounted in Sour Lake. Unfortunately, many of the records from the first part of the 20th Century, especially TDI's records related to paranormal investigations, have disappeared or been misplaced over the years, so it's tedious work, but I'm making progress. Still hoping to have something in print by the end of the year. Wish me luck!

Yes and no. I spent a lot of time in East Texas growing up, and certain elements of the story--the creepiest aspects, really--reflect the legends and oil-field tales I heard when I was young. On the other hand, Sour Lake references some very disturbing racist acts that took place in East Texas in the early 20th Century, and I suspect some of those incidents aren't as well known and remembered as they should be. Great question!
