I joined writer groups in Brick, West Windsor and Jackson New Jersey. Some of the people there never published and still haven't published to this day. Some members were published. By published, I mean wrote manuals for companies, wrote articles for newspapers, wrote for the community newsletter. Writer doesn't mean books. I met with others who wanted to communicate. "Writer" didn't mean a certain standard, it meant seriousness to communicate. So I considered myself a writer when I could hobnob with these writers in various stages of the game.

I hope you don't mean other realm or planet when you asked this question. I would want to be at Camp Half Blood from the Percy Jackson stories. The camp is located in Long Island New York, but it's not part of New York. Not everyone can go there. There are activities and if you're not a warrior, they had spectators. It's living history.

I'm looking forward to the Ric Riordan Apollo book. There is a new Cassandra Clare due out. I plan on going back to find some of the 33 1/3 books about some of my favorite albums.
I'm going to meet David Salkin next week at a book signing so I'll get a copy of his new book.

I gave this a lot of thought and it isn't an easy question. I think part of me is in a lot of characters. I wish I was more like Mix Tape and explored those parts of nearby towns where I knew there was history and mysterious tunnels.
I always wondered what the abandoned buildings in that part of town had inside. Mix Tape does that.
These weren't mysteries of my life, but things that I found mysterious.

Even though there was only one book, Nick and Nora Charles from the Thin Man have come to represent a happy couple, two equals, and a mystery for each of them. I did a series of blogs about the movies last year because I enjoyed all of them.
Ron Weasley and Hermoine Granger are similar to the Charles'. Each of them have strong characters and they fought and flirt. They did more to solve the mysteries than Harry Potter did.
Nick and Nora became a template for fun, adventurous couples. The age and time are irrelevant.

The best thing about being a writer is that it's the best of several worlds. I sit alone with my computer and I create. I lose myself in this world. When I finish I get to talk to other writers who lose themselves in their worlds and we compare our worlds. We recommend other writers and other worlds. There's solitude when I type, but I still with my characters, then there's a community of authors and readers, like here, where we share all these experiences.

If I need story ideas, I get away from the story. Last week, I needed a reason for the protagonist to go to an empty building. I couldn't think of a reason so I took the dog for a long walk. It gave me a chance to think and I had an idea. Other times, I switch to the blog and that clears the thoughts in my head.

I wanted to write a story with the characters I had created in a writing course. The settings changed constantly, the time the story took place changed, and the conflict changed a lot.
I read history. I was always good at that class in school also. I noticed that history plays a big part in several fiction books I've read lately. I could combine things I like to this one story. I used true historical information about the Schuyler Mines as a backdrop to the story. I had my characters, I just needed to tie it together.
What I hope readers know or will realize is that I didn't take liberty with the history, perhaps the town the story is set in, but the facts are true. Real life is very fascinating. I worked that into this fiction story.
Enjoy!
