My previous military experience, and seeing first hand that the world we live in, is not always the one we see on the tv.
We all believe in the safety that we come to expect, little realising that day and night, people we may never know, never see, never talk to, are risking it all to keep us in the bubble we call our daily lives.

Step away from the keyboard, go for a walk, talk to friends, forget the block. Come back the next day, cup of tea in hand, fresh faced and brain reset. If necessary skip the part of the story your struggling with, go to the end, or back to the beginning, type whatever is in your head at the time, regardless of its to do with the book. Stop and read what you've written. perhaps without realising it you've answered your question and overcome the block.

Imagine watching a film, except this is your film. You control the narrative, how cool or sleazy the characters are, how tall, how large, how small, how funny. Then the plot, the location, the twists and the turns, the ending. All of it lingering in your head, ready to be put to paper. This is your story, and it goes where you want it to go. That's what I love about being a writer.

Be aware of how big the market is, first test the book on your friends and family, ask them to be honest. If the reviews you get back are mostly positive, then go for it, release your book, but build a customer base for it. Go onto forums and chat to people, tell them about your book, but don't give to much of your plot away, leave that to the reader. Finally, accept the fact that not everyone may like the book, some people may be hostile, jealous or just not want you to succeed. Ignore them and concentrate on those that do enjoy it. These are your future readers, make sure you give enough to them, without giving to much of yourself away. Finally, have fun, its enjoyable to write, and know that even by putting pen to paper or typing on the keyboard, you've already done more than others would have done.
