Chris Vick Hi Kat,

Yes, it's me :) I am SO pleased that you are enjoying it. I don't know why it is not showing on GR yet, I had the same question. I have asked the publisher.
Chris Vick I certainly got very emotionally attached myself. While you write a book you live in your characters' heads, and they live in yours.

Yes, there were parts that were difficult to write. That's true with any book. But it's probably to do with ease of writing as much as the emotional engagement. Sometimes it flows, other times, it's blood from the stone.
Sometimes, you 'get' what's in your head, in words, and other times, it's much more difficult, even frustrating. Re-writing is the key. The storm, the part in the mine after the rave, Sam's confrontation with his mum - all were tricky in their own ways. Hope you like Storms as much :) (out end next week! - eek!)

Chris Vick Hi,

First off: thanks so much for your review - it is EXACTLY the kind of response I hope for.

Jade is part based on two girls I knew. Some of the events are sbased on real occurences too, but that said, she and the story are first and foremost, fiction.
Chris Vick 5 - yes, partly - it makes characters easier to imagine if they are at least in part, based on real people
6 Five on a treasure island. it had a major impact. I was so lost in that world. Some people have caled Kook a YA/teen version!
7 I cannot remember not wanting to be one. It just took me a long time :)
Chris Vick 1 it sort of wrote itself- I included all the things that I am crazy about like surfing and Cornwall
2 No itis not true. But it has truth in it. Some of the characters and events are heavily inspired by real people and events but have changed and morphed for the purpose of the story.
Chris Vick Never get blocked as such, but some days it is harder than others. I say: keep going, try something new, write a different part of the book, or a different character, or do something new entirely.

In emergencies, leave it, go surfing.
Chris Vick So many answers but in th end it comes down to 2 things:

1 writing, when it's going well, is like being lost in abook you love- that feeling X10.

2 getting feedback from readers who really connected with the book.

That's what it's about, not sales or festivals or social media, though things are a lot of fun.

Chris Vick Do it because you love it. 'It,' being writing, not being published. Work hard to be the best writer you can be. If you have that passion, never stop. Never.
Chris Vick A very different book - with an English boy and a Moroccan girl (a refugee) at the heart. Everyhting that is happening at the moment in Europe and around the world, makes me sad, but also angry and as a writer the best way I know to express how I feel is through creting a story.
Chris Vick never had that problem - it's sorting the good from the bad that makes it difficult. But inspiration? No problem - I LOVE writing!
