Hop on my road bike, cycle into the glorious Scottish countryside (no matter what the weather), stop at the top of a very big hill for a bar of chocolate and scream at the top of my voice with no-one to hear me but the cows - works every time!

Well, if you write from home, perhaps the best thing is that you can start writing early in the morning in your pyjamas with a big mug of tea before you have to even think about getting yourself together for the rest of the day! Another bonus, which has been flagged up by writers for centuries but bears repeating is that even when you have only just published your first book and you feel like a real rookie, people communicate with you, follow you, encourage you and remind you that all those hours at the keyboard are not wasted.

If you are writing non-fiction as I am, write about what you know about and are passionate about (there are no prizes for being overly-clever), do your research (you will soon be nobbled by some expert or other if you don't), communicate with as many writers in the same genre, through blogs etc as you have time for (some are a bit scary but most are delighted to save you from making ghastly literary and commercial mistakes) and last but not least, write down your thoughts and observations about your subject daily - a big fat notebook full of scribbles is vital when you start trying to get some order into a book!

I think I may be raving bonkers but I have decided to publish a series of 10 books under the heading of 'Diet Secrets Uncovered'. Our nutritional requirements change, often radically throughout our lives, dependent on age, work commitments, exercise habits, lifestyle etc so whilst many of my diets suit many people, there are always nutritional issues that have to be taken into consideration so my goal is to help readers find the diet that most accurately suits them. I aim to publish the series toward the end of April '14 so will keep you posted!

On a serious note, I really do get very distressed about globally-increasing waistlines and the effect being overweight has on our health. On a cynical note, we simply can't depend on the food giants to reduce our consumption of sugar or increase our consumption of healthy fats - they have shareholders to pander to and profit is everything. On a personal note, I love food and cooking and know that with a little encouragement and not too much scientific jargon thrown in, we can all change our diets for the better and reap the rewards.

2 Weeks in the Super Fast Lane came about because I am a great believer in the fact that when people see results in the early stages of a diet they are super keen to crack on! And let's face it, we are all guilty of leaving it a bit late before we have to appear on the beach or at an important event looking lean and gorgeous so a delicious and nutritious but super fast route is what we are after...
