Andrew Van Wey Wow, thanks Laurie!

I'd suggest By the Light of Dead Stars if you like cosmic horror, small towns with dark, haunting secrets, and a splash of coming of age. I think it's my most mature work, and I'm excited to be returning to that world very soon with the sequel, Tides of Darkness.

Also, if you like a bit of nostalgia and want to take a trip back to the 90s, my novel of shattered friendships and body horror, Head Like a Hole, is pretty popular too.

Thanks again for spending your time with my words.
Andrew Van Wey Hi Alana,

Thank you for spending your time with my words. I'm delighted you enjoyed Forsaken, despite the Rineheart family's dark secrets and deeds.

Yes, I self-publish all my books. And yes, I would absolutely do it again... and I do! Horror is a very small genre and I find it more enjoyable to have a direct connection with my readers and give them stories as soon as I can, rather than waiting 12 months for an agent to take it to market, another 18 months for an editor to massage it through the system, and a publisher to market it (or not). It's a lot of work on my end (50% of my job is the business side) and some days it seems exhausting, but ultimately it's very rewarding. Plus, I get to work directly with great editors, cover designers, book bloggers, etc., and I value that connection and feedback. I'm a big fan of what indie publishing has done for readers, and I think horror is primed to be pushed forward by indie voices in particular. After all, some of the most unique and interesting stories are coming out of that space... not New York publishers chasing a trend from two years ago.

Cheers!
Andrew Van Wey Hiya CalifCat!
Apologies! I'm not on Goodreads often and this questions slipped by me. Thanks for spending your time with my words and the Rineheart family in Forsaken. I'm thrilled you enjoyed it! My novel of 90s bodily horror, Head Like a Hole, seems to be doing pretty well and might be a fun followup. Or, if you're in the mood for ghosts and cosmic horrors, my latest is By the Light of Dead Stars, which I recommend for anyone that loves It, Stranger Things, Wayward Pines, and small town horrors with huge consequences.

Thanks for reading!

Andrew Van Wey Hi Mistress of the Bleeding Sorrow,

Apologies about the slow response. I just saw this question. For now, the Hollow Dream series is out of print. While I do have plans to republish the full series, it's currently unavailable for purchase. If you're interested in a similar mix of cosmic horror and coming of age, I recommend By the Light of Dead Stars. I think it's my best book to date.

Thanks for reading!
Andrew Van Wey Hiya Kyle!

Thanks for the kind words. And sorry for taking so long to respond. It's not often that I'm on Goodreads, but I'm hoping to change that.

FORSAKEN came about from a convergence of an old family story of being accidentally locked inside a trunk in a basement, though it was my mother who was the victim. Story went that my uncle moved a coffee table over the trunk she was hiding inside, locking her in.

Like you, I was the eldest sibling in my family. As all eldest siblings know that they've often fallen short of ideal leadership. I did too. But that's just the nature of youth too, and I'm fortunate to be great friends with my younger brother and sister; they're incredible folks.

The last major influence came in the form of the panting itself. I've long imagined that the dead will use whatever medium they can to communicate. In the case of this book, it was art, and since art lends itself so well to different interpretations it made sense that much of this story would revolve around Daniel interpreting this art, its history, and his connection to its creation.

Great question! I hope that answers it.

Cheers!

—Andrew
